Newcastle collisions claim five lives
Durban - Five people were killed in two separate collisions on the N11 in Ngagane, Newcastle on Saturday morning.
According to ER24, in the first accident, a light motor vehicle and a truck collided killing all the occupants of the car. The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash.
"A fourth person was found in the back of the vehicle in a critical condition. Due to the damage of the vehicle paramedics had to call upon the assistance of the local fire department to free the passenger from the wreckage."
ER24 said once the person was freed, his condition deteriorated quickly and he died at the scene.
The second accident occured approximately three kilometers from the first and involved a car that had left the highway and landed upside down in a ditch.
An elderly man was flung from the car as it somersaulted. He suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
